Tactical Emotional Intelligence

A management crash course on emotional intelligence.

Why Failure Lab: Tactical Emotional Intelligence?

“Emotional competence is the single most important personal quality that each of us must develop and access to experience a breakthrough. Only through managing our emotions can we access our intellect and our technical competence. An emotionally competent person performs better under pressure.” –Dave Lennick, Executive VP, American Express Financial Advisers

…..and mike drop.

At Failure Lab, we couldn’t agree with the quote above more. We believe that management & leadership are INDEPENDENT skill sets that must be acknowledged, supported, & trained. In our signature program, Manage Better, we outline the foundational skills of management & leadership, and guess what? A lot of those skills are directly related to Emotional Intelligence.

In this Emotional Intelligence Crash Course, we will narrow the Manage Better focus and directly address the building blocks of Emotional Intelligence and how the Failure Lab frame helps access both the self-reflection & empathy necessary to develop and cultivate Emotional Intelligence skill sets. The Modules

  • Failure & Foundations 1

An invitation for self-reflection. How does your relationship with failure express itself in your life? Let’s spend some time reflecting on ourselves. Who we are. Why we are the way we are. Who we want to be.

  • Failure & Foundations 2

Understand the physicality of failure & stress. Take your self-reflection to the next level. How do we impact and are we impacted by those around us? How do our tendencies interact with others to create both harmony & conflict?

  • Failure & Expectations

Being a people manager is 100% about setting clear expectations.

This module is a reflection on expectation tendencies & preferences - an exploration of how to adapt communication strategy to effectively set expectations for different personality types.

  • Failure & Risk: Delegation

    Delegation & Direct Report Autonomy

An introduction to the Failure & Risk framework. An exploration of “failures of action” vs. “failures of inaction.” Consideration of how these concepts influence the leadership skill of delegation & the development of direct report autonomy.
